Success for Wade In Congress!

We did it! We got close to 6% of the vote. This is a huge step forward for the Green Party in the 5th district. It means that instead of having to get 5,000 plus signatures of registered voters to get our candidate on the ballot we’ll only need a few hundred next election cycle. Piece of cake.

5th Congressional District candidates look at jobs and apathy

Nancy Wade and the 5th Congressional race profiled on Medill:

Nancy Lynn Wade, 57, the Green Party candidate running for Congress, said the solution to joblessness is to increase revenue through reduction in the military budget, a transaction tax on Wall Street, and a tax on the very wealthy and corporations. “This would create jobs nationwide and would affect my district as well,” Wade said.

Against the odds, Illinois Green Party plays a long game

Nancy Wade featured on Medill:

Nancy Wade, one of two Illinois Greens running for Congress this year, still believes the party’s support is greater than recent elections have shown. Wade is running against U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley (D-Chicago), who easily beat his last Green Party challenger. But Wade says the 9,000 signatures she collected to secure ballot access proves her party's popularity.

Vote Green or Red, But Not Blue

Vote Green or Red, But Not Blue

Patrick Boylan wrote an editorial that featured Nancy Wade's campaign on 10/17 in the Welles Park Bulldog:

"Do you want to make a difference this election? Vote for Nancy Wade. Wade is as progressive as anyone in this race, intelligent and will represent the district well. And electing Wade will send a message to the people who think your vote doesn’t matter. They think they own that seat, not you."

Quigley Supports Attacks on Civil Liberties

I pledge that when elected I will not vote for laws that infringe on and erode our constitutional protections against unreasonable search and seizure afforded to American citizens. That is not a claim my opponent, Mike Quigley, can make.

Quigley just voted to extend warrantless spying on you and me for the next five years. He joined Republicans in voting to deny our civil liberties and further weaken our democracy and freedoms.

Greens Nancy Wade turning up heat on Rep Quigley

From Examiner.com:

Green Party nominee and Quigley opponent, Nancy Wade, isn’t the type to go all the way to Washington DC just to sit around and be a quiet rubber-stamp for gridlock-producing party leaders.

‘Our country is in crisis and to solve our problems we must get our priorities straight,’ Wade says on her campaign website, ‘There are no shortages of viable, progressive solutions to the economic and environmental challenges facing us. What is lacking is political fortitude. We need champions for the solutions we know exist, champions who are not beholden to corporate donors.’

Green Party candidate Nancy Wade released the following statement after the Chicago Teachers Union issued a strike starting at Midnight on September 10:
As a longtime teacher and as the Green Party candidate for IL’s 5th U.S. Congressional district, I would like to announce my unequivocal support for the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) in its labor dispute with the Chicago Public Schools.  The scope of the teachers’ demands, which they have clearly articulated, extends beyond salary and job security to offer a comprehensive blueprint for addressing systemic problems such as class size, adequate facilities, and more support staff.  By contrast, rather than negotiating in good faith, Mayor Emanuel, his handpicked school board, and various corporate front groups have continued to scapegoat teachers for the failures of misguided local policies and for chronic city budget woes not created by the teachers.
